I have had my fair shares of winning moments when it comes to giveaways and contests, so today in hopes of helping out my fellow giveaway enthusiasts, I’m sharing with you some of my secrets. Well not really secrets but these things definitely contributed with my success. LOL this looks like I’m talking about how to chase your dreams.
1. Join as much giveaways/contests as possible. It’s true that the higher the entries, the higher the chances of winning. If you joined five contests, you might win at least one of them. You can search ongoing giveaways by literally looking up the hashtag giveaway on Twitter and Instagram. Just make sure you keep a tab on all the contests you’ve joined so you don’t miss the announcement of winners. 2. You must follow all the rules. Those people hosting the giveaway really do check if you follow their rules. There was this one time when the winner got disqualified because she didn’t follow the rules so they had to pick another winner. 3. Create a separate account if you plan to join a lot of giveaways. With this account, don’t just post giveaways entries. Post other stuff too so it doesn’t look like a giveaway account. The reason why you should make a separate account is because you will annoy the shiz out of your friends if all you post about are your giveaway entries. 4. If it’s a contest where you have to answer a question, be creative and witty. Chances are there will be loads of entries and the host will never be able to get through all of them. You have to make your answer stand out. Be funny. Also try to get as much likes as you can even if it’s not required, it helps in making your comment stay on top. 5. Be active on social media. Try to like/retweet as much post of them as possible. This way, they will be aware of your account and you’ll get their attention. You might win because of your strong engagement. That’s basically the main reason why they hold these giveaways anyway, to give back to people that support them.

So you’ve recently seen your fave in a concert and now that it’s over, you think your world is also over and you don’t know how to continue with your life. It’s alright. It’s completely normal. That’s exactly how I felt when I saw David Archie for the first time after 9 years. I mean I waited 9 years so it was very hard to move on. I couldn’t function for a few days so if you’re like me, I hope these tips will help you because they worked on me.
1. Acceptance – You have to acknowledge that you have a PCD and don’t think that you’re weird crying over someone who doesn’t even know you. It’s normal because that band/person is important to you. Most people experience that and I can assure you that you are not going insane. 2. Talk to someone – Talk to your concert buddy, BFF, anyone. Let it out. Do not bottle up all these emotions on yourself. It helps because it somehow lessens the emotional baggage that you have. If you think your friend in real life doesn’t care, then go online. It’s actually kinda sad that there are more people who will support you there. Basing from my experience, friends that I met online are nicer. 3. Write about it – Jot down your experience. You can make a thread on Twitter, post a blog entry, or even write on your own journal. Relieve that moment and cry if you feel like it. It’s okay because it just means that it’s an important event in your life. After that, you will feel much better like a weight has been lifted off your chest. I personally thank myself I did that because now I can look back on that moment by reading my own story and instead of crying, I catch myself smiling. 4. Distractions – Try not to think about that band/person for a while. I know it’s hard but at least try. Don’t torture yourself. I’m happy that I found the Dolan Twins when I was dealing with my PCD. I watched their videos all day long and I forgot I was sad. Slowly I’m becoming my normal self again. I could watch the concert videos that I took only to hate on myself for shaking too much I got the worst footage ever. 5. Have something to look forward to – I have an event coming up this month, so my attention is on that thing. You need an excitement in your life to put you back on track. It could be another concert you’ll be attending or a new season of your favourite show. Anything that excites you will help you recover from the mess that you are now. 6. Time – If all else fails, then just let time do its thing. It might take 4 days, a week, two weeks, but trust me you’ll get over it. You might not be able to function right now but you will in no time. Stop stressing yourself out. You’ll be fine. That happiness you felt that day, you will experience that again. 1. Be an active fan account
If you tweet a lot about them and promote their stuff, they are most likely to follow and notice you. If it’s a singer or band, post about their music. If it’s a Youtuber, post about their most recent video. 2. Tweet a funny meme about them People might like it and you could get retweets and likes, until your memes reach your fave. 3. Reply to their tweets and be witty Turn their notifications on so you always see their tweets in real time and you could reply to them asap while they are still online. If you are witty enough, you might get a notice. 4. Post an artwork They appreciate their fans’ artworks. They might retweet you and if they like it so much, some even use it as their profile pic. 5. Watch out for the “RT for a follow” tweet This is where the ”post notifications on” also comes in handy. You don’t want to miss out when your faves do a follow spree. 6. Tweet when they are online There are some people who don’t tweet but they are online. You can check it on the “likes” of your faves. If s/he recently liked a tweet, that’s when you know when s/he’s online. 7. Buy their merch and tweet them Take a photo of your merch and share it to them. They usually notice those who really support them by buying their stuff. 8. “If this gets ___ RTs, will you follow me?” Get as much RTs as you need until your faves notice you. It takes a lot of effort and some of them really do appreciate this. 9. You can be their street team/update account Familiar with accounts like “Justin Bieber Updates, Arianda Grande Philippines, Taylor Swift Malaysia”? They are most likely to be followed by the artists since they post updates about them and they basically represent the fandom. It does take a lot of effort and time, though, but if you are really dedicated then it’s going to be worth it. 10. Direct Message Some accounts give out DMs with celebrities. Watch out for these accounts. Through this, you can DM your fave even if s/he is not following you. Some of them check their DMs and there’s a bigger chance your message might be opened. Disclaimer: I am not an expert and I certainly don’t have the perfect English. I don’t even know all of the rules for subject-verb agreement. I also do make a lot of mistakes but I try to at least sound alright using this language. Again, these are things that have personally helped me while I try to improve myself.
1. Listen to the radio Before, using social media isn’t one of my options to kill some time. We didn’t have wifi then and whether you have twitter or not didn’t really matter. So what I would do whenever I was bored was to listen to the radio. Not the “pang-masa” stations but those where the DJs talk in English. My favourites were Magic 89.9, Monster Radio RX 93.1, and Mellow 94.7. I even had favourite DJs and shows then so I knew what time to tune in. You can also try this next time. Instead of just listening to the music, listen to the DJs and learn from them. I even remember those times when I didn’t know some of the words the DJ would say so I would look it up my dictionary. 2. Watch Foreign TV Shows and Films This is very effective for children. They are still young, their minds are fresh and they can learn as much language as they want to. This is scientifically proven I wished I was able to learn more languages when I was younger. My cousin is a living proof. He was exposed with English cartoons and his family would watch foreign films all the time, so even if they didn’t teach him how to speak in English, he was still able to adopt it. It also applies to everyone, not just kids. If we watch more foreign shows and films, we get used to it. Some people can even adopt the accent. 3. Read books written in English I grew up reading English novels. It definitely helped me. The same thing with the radio, when there are some words I don’t understand I look them up on a dictionary. It’s good to have something to read because you can really see how the sentences are constructed. They are definitely more formal than the ones you just hear. 4. Practice Write in English, tweet in English, think in English, talk to people in English. Basically do things in English. You have to practice to be good at something. The same thing goes with learning Mandarin. If you want to learn the language, you have to use it. You can’t just attend a Mandarin class and then after the discussion, you won’t even use it outside. You will forget it so you have to practice. I found something on Messenger app where you can practice your English by talking to a bot. If you have social media accounts, you can also follow people and interact with your international friends. These are the things that I personally do to save money while I am still a student. I hope at least one of these will help you.
1. Apply for a scholarship This is definitely one of the things that have helped me throughout my college life. I always tell people around me who kept complaining about how broke they are to try applying for a scholarship. There are loads of scholarship grants out there. Schools even post about them on bulletin boards so you can always check on that. Don’t be afraid to try. I have been rejected as well but since I really wanted it so bad, I kept applying until I got accepted. It’s been very helpful since not only does it pay for my tuition, but I also receive a monthly allowance. It will also motivate you to study harder since you have to maintain your grades to remain a scholar. 2. Save on Transportation Find other routes. I used to think that the only way I could reach my school was through MRT and LRT, but then the fares got higher and I had to find other ways. I learned that I could ride a jeepney and I could save 14 pesos from my usual fare. Add up to a whole week, that’s 70 pesos you could save. 3. Bring “baon” Don’t be shy and think that you are too old to bring your own “baon” to school. If your friends judge you for it, then they aren’t your real friends. 4. Take some “rakets” You can tutor someone, volunteer for babysitting, or do other students’ assignment. There are loads of things you can do and you can even finish them on your free time. 5. Be with people who are as stingy as you are Do not hang with people who spend too much. Chances are you will be pressured to buy as well, so be with people who don’t like to spend much. You can save together and be stingy with each other. 6. Bring your own water One small water bottle costs around 15 pesos. That’s not even enough for the whole day so you are most likely to buy more. Just bring a big water bottle to keep you hydrated all day long. Yes, it adds weight to your bag but it also adds money to your pocket. 7. Buy big notebooks/binders This is for those who are not required to have separate notebooks for each subject. It’s mostly applicable for college students since professors don’t even check your notes. You can just write all of your lessons in one big notebook. Not only will your wallet thank you, but also your bag. I might write another blog on how I keep my notes organized in one notebook. 8. Take advantage of the free wifi I don’t about you, but my university offers free wifi. I take advantage of it. Sometimes I would even bring my own laptop to school to finish a requirement especially when I don’t have enough time. It saves me a lot of money since I don’t have to rent on a computer shop. I could even open my laptop during breaks or vacant time. 9. Take advantage of the free electricity Don’t do this all the time but if you really have to, you can plug in your phone or laptop so you can charge them on an empty classroom. Some dorms don’t allow students to charge so you could just do it at school. It will save you money instead of paying at loading stations. 10. Do not buy new stuff every school year Control yourself from buying unnecessary items every year. Only buy the things you really need. Check your things because you could even reuse some of them. Like for some notebooks that still have a lot of pages you can write on. |
