I used to be that person. When I started making my twitter account, I thought those who have a lot of followers were cool people. It is as if your twitter ratio matters. The rule is that you should have more followers than following. Well I am no expert here but based from my 6 years on Twitter, these are the things that I have observed to be working.
1. Tweet relatable stuff If you tweet relatable stuff, there’s a big possibility that people might retweet you. When they do, their followers will see your tweet. Chances are they might also check out your account and they might decide to follow you... then they might also retweet you... and the cycle will continue. 2. See what’s trending Watch out for whatever is trending in your country or worldwide. Tweet something about it. Use your wits. If people agree with your opinion, they will retweet or like you. Your tweet might even go viral. This way, people will check out your account and some of them will definitely follow you. 3. Be an active fan/update account Fan/update accounts usually have a lot of followers. It is because people who are on the same fan base follow them. Since this fan/update accounts post updates and pictures about their idols, other people tend to follow them to be updated as well. These are also the fan accounts who post memes and everything relatable about their idol. 4. Do giveaways A lot of people watch out for giveaways. And when you do giveaways, one of the rules could be to follow your account. Another rule could also be them retweeting you. That way, more people will know about your giveaway which means more followers. 5. Follow more people You might want to do this if you don’t even check your timeline. If you do, this will surely bother you. Following a lot of accounts will make your timeline messy. But this thing works that I even see some verified accounts doing this trick. I know Bart Baker does it. He followed me once. He seemed familiar and I checked out his account for me to find out that he’s a YouTuber. I decided to follow him back but after a few days, he unfollowed me. That’s one of the ways he gains followers. There’s no guarantee that all people will follow you back but at least half of them will. Then you can just unfollow them after some time. 6. Search for follow trains This will affect your image so do this at your own risk. Follow trains are those tweets with “Follow everyone who RTs” or “RT for 100 free follows”. There’s also no guarantee that all people who RT will follow you, or if you RT that tweet, you will really get 100 followers. But there is no harm in trying. Some accounts still do this. But as I have said, it will affect your image since your followers will see that you RT those tweets and they might think that your followers are not real. These are just some of the tricks that work on Twitter. Like what I said, I used to think that those who have more followers are way cooler but now I don’t. For me, Twitter isn’t a venue for who’s got more followers or not, it is a platform where I can be myself. My family doesn’t know I have Twitter. This is where I post about random and nonsense stuff I just want to get out of my head. But if you want more followers, you could just do the things I listed above. I have done some of those, too. Just a reminder that you should not get validation based on the number of followers you have. You are cool in your own weird way.
